Frida Kahlo Collection at Ulta Beauty

Frida Kahlo Collection at Ulta Beauty

I paint flowers so they will not die. –Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo continues to enjoy a revival as her artwork is displayed in solo shows 65 years after her tragic death. Admirers can even view her paintings in the United States. In addition to her art, Frida’s image adorns socks, dolls, clothing, and fabric. Last year, Mattel released a Barbie doll version of Frida. Vault by Vans debuted a Viva la Vida Frida Kahlo collection. Depending on the vendor, prices range from $30-120. On July 21, Ulta Beauty released a Frida Kahlo Collection.

The collection includes face primer, liquid illuminator, brow master palette, blush/bronzer duo, lipstick, and brush set. The pieces I’m most drawn to are the cosmetics bag and the 3-piece collector’s set. Both are ideal for mixed media art storage.

The purpose for the cosmetic bag is fairly obvious: to store pencils, brushes, etc. When I travel, I place select colored pencils and a few brushes in a cosmetic bag. Since the bag is plastic, it is ideal for storing these items.

Never apologize for who you are. –Frida

The 3-piece collector’s set consists of an eye shadow palette, new hue shadow switching pan, and a keepsake box. The switching pan can hold several half pans of watercolors. All I need to do is place a bit of magnet on the bottom for them to adhere to the bottom.

Using mini tins to hold watercolor pans allows artists to purchase specialty paints. Search Etsy for sellers. Be prepared to be amazed at the gorgeous and luscious selections.

Look for me to pack both when we head out on Thanksgiving vacation.
